A major improvement in the world’s lightest solid material and best
solid insulating material, described here today, may put more of this
space-age wonder into insulated clothing, refrigerators with thinner
walls that hold more food, building insulation and other products.
The report, on development of a new flexible “aerogel” ― stuff so light it has been called “solid smoke” ― was part of the 244th
National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society, the
world’s largest scientific society. More than 14,000 scientists and
others are in the City of Brotherly Love for the event, which features
8,600 reports on new development in science and other topics.
Se ha mejorado de manera importante el material sólido más ligero y a la vez el mejor aislante sólido del mundo, el cual se describe aquí; éste permitiría poner más de esta maravilla de la era espacial en ropa térmica, en refrigeradores con paredes más delgadas que permitan almacenar más comida, en edificios aislados térmicamente y en otros productos.
El reporte, acerca del desarrollo de un nuevo "aerogel" flexible ― tan ligero que bien pudiera llamársele "humo sólido" ― fue parte del 244th National Meeting & Exposition de la American Chemical Society, que es la sociedad científica más grande del mundo. Más de 14,000 científicos y no científicos se encuentran en la Ciudad de Brotherly Love para este evento, el cual tiene registrados 8,600 reportes en nuevos desarrollos de ciencia y otros temas.
