SOL-GEL CHEMISTRY: FROM SELF-ASSEMBLY TO COMPLEX MATERIALS

 Sol–gel appears nowadays as a mature branch of chemistry with much of the basic research that has been exploited for the most part. The possibility of combining sol–gel with supramolecular chemistry has, however, open almost endless possibilities of new applications of sol–gel processes which have therefore become a fundamental tool of nano-chemistry. We have briefly reviewed the work done in our laboratory in this field, from self-assembly, with a description of the analytical in situ techniques that we have developed up to the design of nanomaterials of increasing complexity.

Actualmente la técnica sol-gel aparece como una rama madura de la química con mucha investigación básica que ha sido explotada en su mayor parte. La posibilidad de combinar la técnica sol-gel con química supramolecular ha, sin embargo, abierto una cantidad casi interminable de posibilidades para nuevas aplicaciones de los procesos sol-gel, los cuales se han convertido así en una herramienta fundamental de la nanoquímica. Nosotros hemos hecho una breve revisión del trabajo hecho en nuestro laboratorio en este campo desde el autoensambaje, con una descripción de las técnicas analíticas in situ que hemos desarrollado para el diseño de nanomateriales de complejidad creciente.
